Adams Point The small and trendy area of Adams Point lies on the north side of Lake Merritt. It has become a gentrified neighborhood full of young professionals and artists. A short walk to Lake Merritt, the Grand Lake Theater, and BART the real estate in Adams Point consists mainly of Los Angeles-style apartment buildings with Craftsman and Edwardian houses mixed between.
Crocker Highlands / Trestle Glen The affluent neighborhoods of Crocker Highlands and Trestle Glen sit beneath the city of Piedmont and northeast of Lake Merritt. Many of the residents in these two neighborhoods are members of the Lakeshore Homeowners Association, one of the oldest homeowners associations west of the Mississippi River. Real estate in these areas of Oakland vary with Craftsman, Prairie, Neo-Mediterranean style homes, along with Arts and Crafts style and Beaux-Arts classicism, which were designed by famed architects Julia Morgan and Bernard Maybeck. These lovely neighborhoods are ideal for those who love a cozy, traditional setting with a garden-like atmosphere.
Dimond Oakland's Dimond District is located about two miles from Lake Merritt where the Oakland hills meet the flatlands and has excellent freeway access. This area is a melting pot of cultures and social classes. The Dimond Business District is home to several National, regional, and local retailers and restaurants. Dimond Park provides wooded grounds in the midst of the urban activity surrounding it.
Downtown / Uptown / Old Oakland/ Chinatown Downtown is known as the Central Business District of Oakland. The Tribune Tower, Cathedral Building, and Rotunda Building are just a few of the architectural marvels in this area. Uptown Chinatown is a pan-Asian neighborhood located in Downtown Oakland that covers blocks of eclectic stores. In the center is the Pacific Renaissance Plaza which consists of many restaurants, a library, health stores, bank, and more and provides a quiet courtyard. Most of the housing in the Downtown, Uptown, Old Oakland, and Chinatown area are newer 21 st century condos. These neighborhoods are home to Oakland Charter High School and Yu Ming Charter School which were both given a 10 out of 10 rating by the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress in 2015.
Glenview Known as a close-knit family neighborhood, Glenview is located in the Oakland foothills and at the western edge of Dimond Park. This community has small town appeal as it is not as showy or pricey as the surrounding neighborhoods. Many of the homes are pre-war Craftsman, California Bungalows, and Mediterranean style homes. The residents of Glenview enjoy lounging at the local cafes and visiting Dimond park for BBQ's, swimming at the pool, and access to trails.
Grand Lake / Lake Merritt The Grand Lake District of Oakland is also known as the Lake Merritt neighborhood which sits at the northeast corner of Lake Merritt. This area is balanced by the stimulation of commercial centers and the calm Lake Merritt. Main attractions are the famous Grand Lake Theatre and excellent Farmer's Market hosted each Saturday. Real Estate is mostly apartment buildings developed in the 60's and 70's with older pre-war structures mixed in.
Jack London Square Named after Jack London, a 19 th century novelist and journalist from San Francisco, this Oakland neighborhood is rich with history and new energy. NOBE Neighborhood The North Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville neighborhood is a newly revitalized area. The central location is a commuter and walker's dream. Residents enjoy the Community Gardens, local Farmer's Market, and Berkeley Bowl Marketplace for fresh and wholesome foods. A wide variety of restaurants and cafés pepper the area. Real estate for the NOBE neighborhood is a mix of historic Bungalow to modern custom homes.
Oakmore The beautiful Oakmore neighborhood is located in the hills north of Dimond Park. The area consists of the historic "miracle" bridge which crosses Sausal Creek and Dimond Canyon. There are a variety of homes in the secluded Oakmore. On the west end California Bungalows, Ranch, and mission style homes line long roads with few cross streets. Along the east end of the neighborhood the tall hills offer great views from more contemporary and modern, tudors, and Mediterranean homes.
Piedmont Avenue The Piedmont Avenue neighborhood is located west of the City of Piedmont. This area is a lively stretch of boutiques and eateries. Attractions are the Chapel of Chimes designed by Julia Morgan and Mountain View Cemetery on the hillside. An assortment of architectural styles fill the Piedmont Avenue neighborhood such as prairie, tudor, converted manors, and apartment high-rises.
Piedmont Pines Piedmont Pines of Oakland is a scenic neighborhood of beautiful, mostly large homes that range in style and age. The neighborhood's real estate is governed by the Piedmont Pines Neighborhood Association and consists of exclusively single family homes. Located on the west edge of Redwoods Regional Park and in the Oakland hills creates gorgeous views for the neighborhood.
Redwood Heights This hillside neighborhood boasts sparkling views of the San Francisco Bay and alluring, leafy streets. The Redwood Heights Neighborhood Association is one of Oakland's oldest neighborhood associations. Community anchors are Lincoln Square and the Redwood Heights Recreation Center that offers a diverse range of programs for children. The homes in Redwood Heights vary in style, but consist mostly of 2-3 bedroom homes.
Rockridge Located at the foot of the Oakland Hills, the Lower Rockridge neighborhood has a charming down-home feel amongst atmospheric cafes, gourmet restaurants, independent bookstores, and antique shops. Many of the original cottages and Bungalows from Oakland's quieter days still remain and are some of the most coveted real estate in the Bay Area. Temescal One of Oakland's oldest neighborhoods, Temescal has seen a revival in the recent years. The architecture is a medley of pre-war duplexes and Craftsman Bungalows with some Victorians in the mix.
The Laurel This bright neighborhood is located between the foot of the Oakland hills and Mills College. Residents take pride in their neighborhood, support the local shops, and enjoy the nearby Joaquin Miller and Redwood Parks. West Oakland Along the waterfront next to the Port of Oakland sits the urban neighborhoods of West Oakland.
